All Junglists - A London Someting Dis

The first ever film made about London’s emerging Jungle Scene.

Daughters of the Sapera

An excerpt from a feature documentary shot in Rajasthan, India. The project evolved over many years following the lives of a family from the Kalbeliya tribe, the snake charmer caste, deemed to be the origins of European gypsies. The film focuses on Sandra and the mystery behind her marriage to an Australian tourist. Daughters of the Sapera reveals the psychological imprint we leave behind on cultures we fall in love with, but exoticize, and the impact that has when we fly back home.

Byron Lee

BYRON LEE was shot with Sharp Image in Jamaica for Channel 4 and is a portrait of the man who brought Carnival from Trinidad to Jamaica and Ska to the upper echelons of Jamaican society. Featuring Lee Scratch Perry and Edward Seaga.

Ray ‘Roughler’ Jones -

Drowning on Dry Land - The film was part of the documentary module during my MA. We were asked to make a documentary in a few weeks. After several of my other leads fell through I was introduced to Ray at the last minute by a friend. Not having any time to research I jumped in and started filming. In the week I spent with Ray I found him familiar on so many levels. Like many people I had been close to struggling with addiction, Ray was a fighter. He had been sober for many years and I admired the courage with which he faced day to day life. A quintessential likeable rogue who came to the big city in search of fame and fortune. He never quite found it, but he did hang out and become friends with those that did. It nearly cost him everything, but he endured. A micro history of a 'galvanteer' and a survivor.

La Petite Mort

A fly on the wall study of a night the Artful Badger held at Passing Clouds, part night club, part community centre. Unfortunately like many places of its ilk in East London it was sold off to property developers. The film takes its title as a metaphor for how during one night out brief intimacies can be shared while lovers are made and broken. It was shot from both behind and in front of house, and while no commentary is given, various characters come and go offering us glimpses into stories we can only imagine.

Grey

GREY was an exercise in the experimental module of my MA program. The task was to make a film within the parameters of a) The theme of a single colour. b) We were forbidden to shoot anything. The concept was to edit together images from films that have been an inspiration but also on a deeper level felt at times as if I had dreamt them before I'd watched them, alluding to the power of film and its relationship to the subconscious

Ali - My World

A contained portrait of a Ali, a taxi driver, whom I knew from my local mini cab firm, that I used before I drove. Many of the drivers came to know my life over time and I theirs. I was always intrigued by the drivers’ stories and was struck in particular by Ali, his gentleness and kindness. He kindly let me into his car one afternoon to film.
